The Dorset Armed Forces Covenant Programme The Dorset Armed Forces Covenant Programme is a partnership between Dorset Council, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council, Dorset HealthCare University Foundation Trust, NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, the Office of the Police, Crime Commissioner Dorset, Bournemouth University, Wessex RFCA, Royal British Legion, SSAFA, other relevant charities, the Military Bases, businesses, communities and individuals in a pledge of support between local residents and the Armed Forces Community in Dorset.

The programme provides information points and advice for Veterans and their families, Covenant training, background information and statistics, Veterans Gateway, Directory of partners and health and wellbeing support.

Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly. Read more about the covenant.

HeadFIT is What is HeadFIT and who is it for?

  • HeadFIT has been developed in partnership with The Royal Foundation's Heads Together campaign, the Ministry of Defence and King's College London
  • HeadFIT is a new online platform, which will provide the military with 24/7 access to self-help tools to help them manage the stresses of everyday life
  • the platform includes tools such as breathing exercises, body posture and relaxation techniques that have been designed for all defence personnel, whether they are new recruits, long-serving personnel, veterans, civilian staff or those in uniform. The techniques are designed so they can be easily integrated into their everyday lives

Veterans’ Gateway find support in your local area. We connect veterans and their families with a range of local support organisations – both within and outside the Armed Forces sector. We provide advice on housing, employment, finances, living independently, mental wellbeing, physical health, family and communities. Contact them 0800 802 1212.

Fighting Minds (FM) is an organisation designed to help military and emergency service leavers and veterans who face a barrier to the workplace as a result of any disability, barrier or medical condition. FM also supports ex-forces personnel in prison through training and mental health support. Applications for support can be made directly through the website or by phone. The Hub is a staging post for other services such as our community allotment, fully fitted gym and wellness rooms, as well as offering drop in clinics and advice services from the mainstream charities and local government services. The Hub hosts a cafe at the heart of the community run by veterans and their families for everyone.
