Help and Kindness provides information on help and support that is available to people living and working in Dorset. There is local service information, local events and activities to get involved in your community.
LiveWell Dorset is a free service for adults who would like support to change their lifestyle. They have information to help you to stop smoking, get more active, manage your weight and cut down alcohol.
People First Dorset supports people with learning disabilities with:
- a friendship club where people can make and meet friends in places like cafes, pubs and bowling alleys
- 'speaking up' groups where people can talk about the issues that are important to them and raise any concerns with decision-makers
- a 'quality checkers' team of people with learning disabilities which visits supported living and day services providers to find out what is good and what can be improved
Age UK North, South & West Dorset helps older people when they need them most with information and advice, health and care and wellbeing.
Carer Support Dorset provides information, advice and guidance on your caring role. You might not think of yourself as a carer and think what you do is just part of being a parent, spouse, friend, or sibling. If so, you might be missing out on support that is available.
The Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities. The Bureau can also offer advice on debt and financial difficulties. Find your local Citizens Advice.
Prama Life supports older people and carers across Dorset by providing a range of community-based activities, including support groups for people with dementia and their carers, exercise, crafts groups and social clubs.
Library Service provides far more than a book service with the hire of DVDs, audiobooks, e-books, magazines, newspapers and e-comics. You can search for your family history, use the reference resources, access adult learning courses and home education resources. Many also host events, courses and social activities.
Volunteer Centre Dorset is passionate about all things volunteering! Whether you are looking for a voluntary role, or need volunteers for your organisation, we can help. We believe that there is a volunteering role for everyone, irrespective of age, background, ability, or health and we will strive to find the role that suits you.

The Homelessness Prevention and Advice Team specialises in preventing homelessness and providing housing advice to those who are at risk of becoming homeless, or are homeless, including rough sleepers.
Dorset Council does not have its own housing stock but relies on Registered Providers to accept nominations to their properties via the housing register. The Housing Solutions Team oversees the management and assessment of applications from households to join the register, known as Dorset Home Choice. For further information go to our Housing pages.
